The Clark County School District is the sixth largest in the United States with over 230,000 students. Each year, between five to ten new schools are being built in Las Vegas to keep up with the tremendous growth of the Valley and the influx of more children to the area.
Regardless of this rapid increase in size of the educational system, test results remain consistently high. In fact, Green Valley High School has been ranked in the top ten of all high schools in the United States. New residents are pleased to find that there are a variety of public and private schools from which they may choose to send their children.
Las Vegas schools also offer a variety of special programs that are designed to help students with special problems finish or stay in school. The Clark County Virtual High School offers courses at home via DVD's, Internet, television, and video tapes for those who need to finish their high school credits but are unable to attend regular classes.
The Stay in School Mentoring Program provides adult mentors from the business community to offer support and guidance to middle school students who are at risk of dropping out of Las Vegas schools. These mentors encourage students to stay in school and promote future education and career focus. They commit a minimum of one hour per week to a student for the length of a school year and all mentoring occurs on school grounds during school hours.
Concerned parents are able to review detailed information about schools in the Clark County School District, as well as charter schools. Federal Law "No Child Left Behind" (NCLB) as well as Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 385 require that annual reports are prepared containing detailed information about schools in the Clark County School District (Accountability Reports). These reports are used by Las Vegas school teachers and administrators to help them develop academic plans to increase achievement of all students.
Parents of students who are enrolled in the Clark County School District at the start of each school year receive Accountability Reports as required by law (NRS 385.347). In addition, district, region, and school accountability summary reports are available for viewing online.
The Nevada Department of Education (NDE), along with Otis Educational Systems, Inc. and the Nevada School Districts, have prepared and developed an Accountability Report in the form of an online report card. Parents and other interested parties may view and compare data, conduct custom searches and print individual screens from this report. The state's interactive website may be accessed at www.nevadareportcard.com .

Magnet Schools
The Magnet School Program has been developed by Clark County School District to provide students the opportunity to attend schools that offer unique educational programs. A Magnet Program is a course of instruction related to a very specific theme to which students from the Las Vegas area are attracted. Students who choose to attend Magnet Programs do so because of their special interest or talent in the concept of a program.
These programs offer parents the opportunity to choose their child's school and the students have a better educational experience since they are voluntarily attending classes and programs based on their general interests. Another benefit of Magnet Schools is diversity as students attend school with children from other cultures and backgrounds who share their talents and interests.
Since attending a Magnet School is strictly voluntary, application must be made to:
Clark County Magnet Schools Project Office
2832 East Flamingo Road
Las Vegas, NV 89121
Phone: 702-799-5479
Fax: 702-799-5480
If the number of applications from eligible students exceeds the number of seats available for any of the program areas, the Clark County School District is required to use a "lottery" system. For information on how the lottery system works, contact the District Office.

If you are living with a friend or family member, you are required to bring a notarized statement signed by you as well as the owner or renter of the property where you are now living stating that it is your place of residence.
Please note the following important rules: These forms of identification are NOT acceptable to the school for registration of your child.
- Driver's license

If you attempt to use any of the foregoing for identification, your child will not get registered. If you believe you may have problems providing any of the required documentation for identification, phone 702-799-5304 for help.
